PROCESS DESIGN AND FACILITATION

Process Design and Facilitation

We are widely regarded as effective, results-oriented facilitators, with a sharp focus on what it takes to make informed decisions and reach agreement. Key factors in our success include:

  • Comfort and skills managing both analysis and people;
  • Fair and impartial treatment, both of technical material and of participants in the process;
  • Solid understanding of the subject matter and an ability to quickly synthesize key points;
  • Use of effective structuring and decision support tools;
  • A commitment to ensuring that participants have what they need to make informed judgments and choices; and,
  • A commitment to building the capacity of groups to work effectively as teams.

Compass has a proven track record working with government agencies, Aboriginal governments and organizations, industry, and other stakeholders to reach agreement on complicated, and often controversial, land and resource use issues and conflicts. These projects typically involve a combination of group facilitation, one-on-one discussions, mediation and conflict resolution.

We are also known for facilitating expert groups, including technical advisory committees, science panels, and expert working groups. We use a variety of expert elicitation and facilitation methods to help technical experts make informed judgments under uncertainty, and provide defensible and transparent input to decision makers.

Our process guidelines, terms of reference, and decision charters support all kinds of groups in achieving their mandates – technical advisory committees, public advisory committees, First Nations consultative committees, negotiation teams (e.g. government to government negotiation), expert panels and working groups, inter- or intra- agency groups, and senior government decision makers.
