Dr. McDaniels is a professor at the University of British Columbia’s School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) and Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES). He conducts research and teaches in contexts involving decision making, risk management, and environmental policy analysis.
His training and professional focus include decision analysis as applied to public policy issues, including problem structuring approaches, valuation efforts, and tradeoff analysis with stakeholder input.
Dr. McDaniels has served as the Decision
Sciences area editor for Risk Analysis since 2002, and has served on
panels for the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, Health Canada, and two public risk management
commissions. His current research involves global environmental change,
adaptation to climate change, and strengthening infrastructure systems
in extreme events.
